Mangrove restoration

When the road from Balfate to Rio Esteben was constructed the normal quebrada flow was diverted. As a result the mangrove area suffered because of the loss of fresh water,  and the subsequent filling in of the lagoon- FunaVid therefore is now restoring the mangrove lagoon in association with the CURLA Marine Biology Dept. professors. We believe this is critical for restoration of the very nearby coral reef (approximately 1000 feet).

This restoration of the mangrove area of the FUNAVID/Dole property has been started. 600 mangrove seedlings were provided by professor Norman Sobillon of CURLA and were planted out very successfully. We are delighted to say that only one of them died.
